Locke named to Walker Award watch list

UK senior tailback Derrick Locke was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, which recognizes the nation’s top-collegiate running back.

Locke has 1,731 career rushing yards, which puts him at 10th on the UK career rushing list. The Hugo, Okla., native ran for 907 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Locke also caught 31 passes for 284 yards last year and enters this season as UK’s all-time leader in kickoff returns with a 27.4-yard average.

Notable names joining Locke on the watch list include the nation’s rushing leader last year, sophomore Dion Lewis of Pittsburgh, Alabama junior and Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram and Virginia Tech’s Ryan Williams, who led the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing last year as a freshman.
