New recruit rankings: UK has three of top six
Scout.com released its updated basketball recruiting rankings, and UK commitments make up half of the top six players, including the No. 1 overall prospect.
Anthony Davis, who committed over the summer, rose to No. 1 overall in the rankings. The top ranking culminates his quick rise up the depth charts as he’s grown six inches to become a 6-foot-9 power forward with a guard’s skill set. In the span of about a year, Davis has gone from a relative unknown to the best prospect in the nation.
“In the history of Scout.com, we can’t think of a prospect who ascended to the top faster than Davis,” Dave Telep wrote in the Scout.com article. “John Calipari is getting a hungry, impact shot blocker and a guy who runs the floor with size, speed and grace. Davis can play inside and facing the basket.”
Michael Gilchrist, the top-ranked small forward in the class, was ranked No. 5 overall. He played Team USA’s under-17 team that won the world championship over the summer.
“His motor runs hard, non-stop most of the time,” Telep wrote. “He plays with a reckless disregard for his body and is superb in transition. Now, for him to keep pace with what we think is an elite top five in just about any year, he’ll need to continue adding elements to his game. His jumper has improved but it remains an area he can strengthen from the small forward position.”
Marquis Teague is the top point guard in the class and was rated No. 6 overall.
“Teague is a burner, maybe the hardest guard to check in the class,” Telep wrote.
UPDATE: Rivals.com just came out with their updated rankings too, and they seem to be flipped from Scout’s list. Marquis Teague is No. 2 overall, Michael Gilchrist is No. 3, and Anthony Davis is No. 6. Both ways, UK has half of the top six players in the nation. See Rivals list here.
