Cats crushed by walk-off grand slam
The runs kept coming, and coming, and coming, all the way until the last pitch.
UK (18-11, 2-7 SEC) held a 16-13 lead over No. 10 Arkansas entering the bottom of the ninth inning. With Matt Little working his second inning of the game on the mound, the Razorbacks loaded the bases with two outs and two strikes on lead-off hitter Collin Kuhn at the plate.
Every little kid’s dream, right?
Right. Kuhn launched a walk-off grand slam that gave Arkansas a 17-16 win and the series and sent UK back to Lexington demoralized and deflated.
The runs came in droves the whole night. UK led off the scoring with a five-run second inning. Arkansas replied with eight runs of its own in the bottom of the second. After back-and-forth scoring in the middle innings, UK took the lead again with a seven-run eight inning.
Then, in the bottom of the ninth, Little walked two batters and gave up a single to load the bases before the fateful walk-off.
The Cats were led at the plate by Andy Burns, who hit two home runs, and Gunner Glad, who totaled four RBI.
UK used eight pitchers in the game, starting with Alex Meyer, who lasted only 1.2 innings.
UK has yet to win an SEC series. The Cats face top-ten opponent Louisville Tuesday.
