Wall, Cousins named AP All-Americans
Their season is over, but UK freshmen John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins are still setting records and earning awards
Today, Wall and Cousins became the first freshmen teammates to be named first-team Associated Press All-Americans.
It’s the third time in four years two freshmen have made the team, and they are the ninth set of teammates to make the team.
Wall averaged 16.6 points, 6.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. Cousins averaged 15.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.
Wall set the UK freshman record for most points (616), assists (241) and free throws made (175) in a season. Cousins set the UK freshman record for rebounds in a season (364).
Ohio State’s Evan Turner, Syracuse’ Wesley Johnson and Villanova’s Scottie Reynolds joined Wall and Cousins on the All-America team. Turner received all but one first-team vote.
None of the players to make the AP All-America team are still playing in the NCAA Tournament.
Voting was done before the NCAA Tournament.
