UK drops series opener to Vanderbilt
UK got shutout by the opponent’s ace for the second straight time in an SEC series opener.
Vanderbilt’s Sonny Gray was the pitcher this time, throwing seven shutout innings to propel his Commodores (19-4, 2-2 SEC) past UK, 7-0.
UK (16-6, 1-3 SEC) couldn’t muster anything on the offensive end, posting only five hits in the game and leaving ten runners on base.
UK starter Logan Darnell went 5.1 innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs to drop to 3-2 on the year. Freshman Jordan Cooper came on in relief, throwing 2.2 shutout innings to finish out the game.
UK finishes the series with a double-header on Saturday.
