Game notes from UK’s 90-60 win over Wake Forest
- UK defeated Wake Forest 90-60 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Sweet 16. The win improves UK’s overall record to 34-2, and ends Wake Forest’s season at 20-11.
- UK will face either Cornell or Wisconsin in Syracuse, N.Y. on Thursday, March 25. UK is 0-1 against Cornell all-time, and 3-1 against Wisconsin.
- UK’s 34 wins are the most since 1998 when the Cats won 35 games. That team also went on to win the national championship.

- Freshman forward DeMarcus Cousins scored 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting, and pulled down eight rebounds. Cousins would have had an even higher point total had it not been for his 1-for-7 shooting at the foul line.
- For the game, UK was 7-of-17 from the charity stripe.
- Cousins was not impressed by Wake Forest senior forward Chas McFarland’s efforts to get under his skin: “To be honest, he was a horrible trash talker. I mean, that was the worst job I’ve ever seen in my life … I mean, come out with a momma joke or something.”
- Freshman guard John Wall scored 14 points and had seven assists. Wall is averaging 15.5 points and nine assists in his two NCAA Tournament games this season.
- Fellow freshman backcourt mate Eric Bledsoe scored 13 points, dished out five assists and had two steals against Wake Forest. With 13:28 left in the second half, Bledsoe went up with an emphatic one-handed dunk to put the Cats up 64-37. Bledsoe said it was one of the best dunks of his career.
- At one point in the second half junior forward Patrick Patterson left the court holding his right wrist grimacing in pain. Patterson later returned to the floor after briefly resting on the bench. After the game, Patterson said he aggravated it a bit and it swelled up a little but he’s just going to ice it. He didn’t seem concerned about it.
- The Cats shot 66.7 percent in the first half and hit their first 11 shots in the second half.
- UK hit 23 of their first 25 two-point field goal attempts. With 12:41 left in the game, a layup by Wall raised the Cats’ field goal percentage to a staggering 76.3 percent.
