More awards for Dunlap and Mitchell

Junior forward Victoria Dunlap and UK head coach Matthew Mitchell are going to need bigger trophy shelves, and soon, as they picked up more awards on Tuesday, this time from the Associated Press.

The AP named Dunlap Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, and the AP named Mitchell SEC Coach of the Year.

Dunlap and Mitchell received the same honors from SEC coaches on March 2. A’dia Mathies was named SEC Freshman of the Year by the coaches, too.

Dunlap was the AP’s unanimous choice for the accolade and is the first player in UK history to earn the honor. Mitchell becomes the second coach in school history to earn his award, following his predecessor Mickie DeMoss.

On Tuesday, Mitchell was also named Russell Athletic/WBCA Region 3 Coach of the Year.

All in all, the hardware has been piling up for both the UK men’s and women’s teams this year.
