UK learns final position in rankings, NCAA Tournament fate on Monday

In the final edition of the regular-season rankings, released Monday, the UK women’s basketball team (25-7, 11-5 Southeastern Conference) finished No .19 in the AP poll and No. 15 in the coaches’ poll.

The Cats were 19th in the last AP poll, but improved one spot since the previous coaches’ poll.

Other SEC teams in the AP poll include third-ranked SEC regular season and SEC Tournament champions Tennessee, and No. 22 Louisiana State. In the coaches’ poll Tennessee is also No. 3, and the only SEC team joining UK in this poll.

The Connecticut women’s basketball team, winners of 72 straight games, began and completed the season as the unanimous No. 1 team in both polls.

Latest bracketology

Following an eight-day hiatus after losing to Tennessee 70-62 in the SEC title game, the Cats are chomping at the bit to find out where and when they’ll play their first round opponent in the NCAA Tournament.

The Cats will gather at UK head coach Matthew Mitchell’s house for Selection Monday, when the Cats learn their tournament fate during the 7 p.m. broadcast of the selection show.

According to ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme’s latest projection, the Cats could be headed to Berkeley, Calif., as a No. 4 seed to face Southern Conference champions Chattanooga (24-8), a team the Cats defeated 65-55 on Nov. 22.
