Kansas likely wraps up No. 1 overall seed with Big 12 tourney victory

For those of you hoping for the Cats to land in a NCAA Regional close to Lexington, your dreams were just dashed minutes ago.

No. 1 Kansas defeated rival Kansas State in the finals of the Big 12 tournament to stay at No.1 in the ranking and likely the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Brackets will be released at 6:00 p.m. tomorrow, but it’s hard to see how the No. 2 Cats would leapfrog the Jayhawks for the top overall honor.

That means instead of the Cats heading to the St. Louis regional and an opening weekend local of Oklahoma City (home of freshman Daniel Orton), the Syracuse Regional is the likely destination.

That would put the Cats in Milwaukee for the opening rounds.

I’m not sure I’d book my hotels yet, but if you’ve a gambling man, the best bet is that the Cats route to the Final Four will go through New York state.
