Cats handed first loss of season
UK (7-1) suffered its first loss of the season to San Diego State, coached by Hall of Fame outfielder Tony Gwynn, 12-4.
San Diego State pitcher Addison Reed, who was named the top closer in baseball last year, shut down UK, allowing two runs in six innings.
His counterpart, UK sophomore pitcher Alex Meyer, did not fare so well. He allowed seven runs and eight hits in his 4.1 innings.
Sophomore outfielder Corey Farris led the Cats offensively, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Junior second baseman Chris Bisson picked up a hit, extending his hitting streak to nine games, stretching back to last year.
The Cats continue their West Coast swing with a game against San Diego Friday.
