Game notes from UK’s 80-68 win over Georgia

- UK’s 80-68 win over Georgia improves the Cats’ record to 28-2 and 13-2 in the Southeastern Conference. Georgia falls to 13-15 on the season and 5-10 in the SEC.

- The Cats’ win clinches at least a share of the SEC regular season championship. It is the Cats’ 44th SEC Championship.

- The win also will give UK the overall top seed in the SEC Tournament, thanks to a season sweep of Vanderbilt being the tiebreaker should it come down to that. A UK win over Florida on Sunday afternoon would give the Cats the championship title outright.

- John Calipari joins Tubby Smith and Eddie Sutton as the only UK coaches to win the SEC Championship in their inaugural season at the helm.

- The Cats were outrebounded for the second time this season against Georgia. The Bulldogs pulled down 37 rebounds to UK’s 28. Possibly more impressive are Georgia’s 18 offensive rebounds.

- The plethora of offensive boards led the Bulldogs to a 24-12 advantage in second chance points.

- UK outscored Georgia 38-28 in the paint.

- UK registered a season-high 14 blocks. Georgia had zero.

- Sophomore guard Darnell Dodson hit three 3-pointers on Wednesday night. Dodson hadn’t hit a field goal since Feb. 13 against Tennessee.

- Freshman guard John Wall leapfrogged teammate DeMarcus Cousins, as UK’s all-time leading freshman scorer with 493 points. Cousins had broken the record in UK’s previous game against Tennessee.

- Wall’s 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting were the seventh time he’s had a 20-point game this season. Wall also had six assists, three steals and a block.

- Junior forward Patrick Patterson had his ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

- Cousins finished with six points on 3-for-3 shooting in 21 minutes of play (eight minutes in the first half). Cousins also had six blocks and four rebounds.

- UK shot 54.4 percent from the field compared to Georgia’s 40.3 percent.

- Entering this game, Georgia was undefeated against SEC East opponents at home.

- There were eight lead changes and four ties.

- Attendance was 10,523.
