Cats snubbed from Freshman of the Week honors

You know that sound when a record player is stopped abruptly and that screeching sound ensues? That just happened.

Vanderbilt freshman sharpshooter John Jenkins has been named week 16′s Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.

Jenkins averaged 13.5 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in a pair of wins for Vanderbilt over Georgia and Arkansas.

UK freshman forward DeMarcus Cousins, on the other hand, averaged 17 points and 12.5 rebounds for the Cats in a win at home over South Carolina and a nine-point loss on the road at Tennessee. Another impressive freshman performance for UK was that of guard John Wall. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 15.5 points, five assists and five rebounds.

While Cousins and Wall’s numbers seem quite comparable to those of Jenkins’, they will not win their fifth or sixth freshman of the week award, respectively.

Mississippi State’s Jarvis Varnado was named the SEC Player of the Week.
