UK baseball sees late-inning scare, pulls through for win

It got a little shaky at the end, but UK ended up with the win.

UK (5-0) had a burst of offense in the second inning and withstood a ninth-inning charge to grab a 4-3 victory over Bowling Green.

The Cats plated four runs in the second inning to build a cushion that would last the rest of the game.  Junior outfielder Lance Ray hit a double off the wall to drive home senior outfielder Keenan Wiley for the first run.  Later in the inning, sophomore outfielder Chad Wright drove home two with a double.

Freshman pitcher Taylor Rogers turned in another solid performance in his second collegiate outing.  He gave up one run in the first inning but quickly settled down, throwing five shutout innings the rest of the way.  He finished with six hits and three strikeouts in six innings.

UK saw a scare in the ninth inning when Bowling Green loaded the bases with one out.  Sophomore pitcher Braden Kapteyn gave up two runs that brought Bowling Green within one run but ended up getting the save with a groundout to end the game.
