Game notes from UK’s 74-65 loss to Tennessee

- UK lost to Tennessee 74-65 to fall to 27-2 overall and 12-2 in Southeastern Conference play. Tennessee moves to 21-7 and 9-5 in the SEC. A UK win would have guaranteed at least a share of the SEC regular season title.

- UK shot 24.1 percent in the first half and 35 percent for the game. Tennessee shot over 46 percent in both halves, and 47.5 percent for the game.

- The Cats were 2-for-22 from beyond the 3-point arc.

- UK freshman guard John Wall led UK with 19 points. Wall also had five rebounds, six assists and five turnovers.

- During UK’s 11-0 run midway through the second half, Wall played a part in all 11 points, scoring seven of them, and dishing out two assists for the remaining four points.

- UK freshman forward DeMarcus Cousins showed how far he has come since the beginning of the season. Despite getting fouled hard and receive a rash of verbal abuse from the Tennessee faithful, the big man held his composure throughout and poured in 15 points to go along with 14 rebounds. It was Cousins’ 18th double-double of the season.

- Cousins broke the UK all-time freshman scoring record with 470 points.

- UK junior forward Patrick Patterson was 3-3 from the field in the second half and scored 10 points while grabbing five rebounds.

- UK head coach John Calipari was very complimentary after the game of the play of sophomore guard Darius Miller. Miller had seven points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

- UK shot 21-for-27 from the foul line.

- UK scored the game’s first four points, but never led again.

- The Cats rallied to tie the game after trailing by 19-points in the second half.

- Tennessee senior guard J.P. Prince, the cousin of UK legend Tayshaun Prince, scored a game-high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting.

- Hopkinsville, Ky., native Scotty Hopson had 15 points for the Vols.

- Tennessee senior forward Wayne Chism scored eight points despite going 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.

- Tennessee wore their road orange jerseys to support the University of Tennessee’s “OUTLIVE” initiative to fight cancer.

- Attendance was 21,214.
