Game notes from UK’s 58-56 win over Vanderbilt
- UK defeated Vanderbilt 58-56 to improve to 26-1 on the season, and 11-1 in the Southeastern Conference. Vanderbilt is now 20-6 and 9-3 in the SEC.
- The win over Vanderbilt essentially gives UK a 2.5 game lead in the SEC standings because they swept the season series with the Commodores. The Cats have just four games remaining in the regular season.
- It was the Cats’ first win in Memorial Gym since 2005. No player on the UK roster had ever won at Memorial Gym before.
- While UK freshman guard John Wall was 3-for-11 from the field, he made his points count, scoring the Cats’ final five points. Wall finished with 13 points, five rebounds, one assist, one block, one steal and two turnovers.
- DeMarcus Cousins had a game-high 19 points to go along with five rebounds, a block and three steals. Vanderbilt center A.J. Ogilvy had nine points and four rebounds.
- Patrick Patterson continued his impressive play of late with the game’s only double-double. Patterson tallied 13 points and 13 rebounds and a clutch 3-pointer to give the Cats a 52-49 lead with 3:55 to play in the game.
- The Cats were outrebounded 36-40.
- UK and Vanderbilt combined to shoot 5-of-36 from beyond the arc.
- UK struggled at the foul line, going 17-30.
- UK outscored Vanderbilt 30-24 in the paint, but was outscored 2-16 in points from the bench.
- Both games between these two schools this year had two technical fouls called. Saturday’s technicals were issued to UK freshman guard Eric Bledsoe and Vanderbilt forward Jeffery Taylor.
- The game featured 14 ties and 11 lead changes.
- UK’s largest lead was by six, Vanderbilt’s was four.
