UK to wear special jerseys for special cause

As you may, or may not know, the women’s basketball section of this blog has a passion for fashion. Just take a look back in the archives for my examination of UK freshman guard A’dia Mathies’ decision to wear a headband for one game, and the possible choices she might want to make in future games.

In any event, the UK women’s hoops team will make quite a fashion statement when they adorn brand-new pink Nike jerseys against Florida on Thursday. The jerseys are a part of UK’s annual Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association Pink Zone game.

One dollar from every game ticket sold will go to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Furthermore, UK’s pink jerseys and head coach Matthew Mitchell’s tie will be auctioned online with the proceeds also going to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.

Said Mitchell of his tie: “Probably the most attractive item up for auction will be the tie that I wear…It’s pink, it has some navy and it has some white.”
