UK women’s hoops improves ranking in both polls

On Monday, the UK women’s basketball team (20-3, 8-2 Southeastern Conference) moved from No.20 to No. 17 in the AP poll after winning both of its games.

On Tuesday, the Cats moved to No.16 in the coaches’ poll, after being No.18 last week.

SEC teams joining the Cats in the AP poll are No. 5 Tennessee, No. 19 Georgia and No.23 Louisiana State. In the coaches’ poll Tennessee is No. 5, Georgia is No.18 and Vanderbilt is No.22, while LSU is outside the top 25, but receiving votes.

UK recruit named to high school All-America team

Also on Tuesday, UK signee Jennifer O’Neill, a 5-foot-6 point guard from the Bronx, N.Y., was named to the WCBA Nike High School All-America team.

O’Neill, a member of UK’s 2010 recruiting class, becomes UK’s first incoming freshman to earn this honor during the tenure of UK head coach Matthew Mitchell.

According to ESPN HoopGurlz, O’Neill is the 10th-best point guard prospect and a top-30 recruit overall.
