Wall a finalist for top point guard award

It’s no secret that John Wall is one of the top point guards in college basketball right now, so it’s not a surprise the freshman would be named one of 11 finalists for the Bob Cousy Award — annually given to the best point guard.

Wall, who is also highly-favored to win the Player of the Year award, is the only freshman on the list. Nine of the eleven finalists are seniors. Some of basketball’s biggest names are finalists, including Kansas’ Sherron Collins, South Carolina’s Devan Downey, Villanova’s Scottie Reynolds and Michigan State’s Kalin Lucas.

“This final list of 11 players represents the cream of the crop in college basketball at the point guard position,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame in a release. “We look forward to recognizing the nation’s top college basketball point guard and wish all the candidates best of luck.”

Beginning February 5, via the Bob Cousy Award’s website – www.cousyaward.com – fans will be able to vote for the top point guard. The player that receives the most fan votes will receive one vote toward the final committee vote. Fan voting will run one month – beginning February 5 and will conclude March 5. The list will be narrowed to five players on March 1.

The final five players will be narrowed down to the winner by Cousy and the award committee and announced on April 5.
