Tidbits from UK’s 80-66 win over Ole Miss
Senior forward Lydia Watkins was limited to two minutes of playing time because of soreness in her knees and back.
So, UK head coach Matthew Mitchell decided to err on the side of caution and limit Watkins’ work load against Ole Miss.
“Yesterday (Watkins) didn’t have a very good practice,” Mitchell said. “Today she was walking around pretty gingerly in shoot around, and then I could sense pretty early on that she wasn’t full speed.”
Meanwhile, freshman guard A’dia Mathies, who scored a career-high 21 points, played without the headband she first sported against Auburn on Jan. 24.
Speaking of her decision to lose one of the essential basketball accessories, Mathies said: “I don’t know where it is.”
Mathies added that she wouldn’t need it until her next perm anyway.
Also, the win marked the Cats’ 15th straight victory at Memorial Coliseum.
