UK Hoops sweeps weekly SEC awards
Two members of the UK women’s basketball team had their efforts recognized for the work they did in helping the Cats to road victories over No. 19 Louisiana State and Mississippi State.
Junior forward Victoria Dunlap was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Dunlap averaged 21.5 points and 11 rebounds in the road wins, as she also became the 27th Cat to register 1,000 points in a career.
Prior to last week, Dunlap broke her streak of 23 consecutive games in double-figure scoring with a nine-point effort against Auburn on Jan. 24 making last week a strong bounce-back effort.
Guard A’dia Mathies received her second SEC Freshman of the Week honor. Mathies averaged 11 points, seven rebounds and three and a half assists last week. Mathies also hit a key 3-pointer with 3:31 remaining in the MSU game to give UK a more comfortable 59-53 lead en route to a 69-59 win.
