Thoughts on Bobby Knight’s comments on Calipari

I have to say, I’m not surprised by the uproar over Bobby Knight’s comments on John Calipari and the integrity of college basketball. The fact is, two of the programs Calipari has coached have ended up in trouble after he left. He was never implicated in either case, but people associate wrong doing in a program with the coach. That’s the facts.

But Knight was speaking to an Indiana crowd. He made his career at Indiana. Who is a big rival of Indiana? UK is. And Calipari just took his squad and whipped the Hoosiers in Assembly Hall. You got a bunch of people licking wounds that needed some encouraging words and Knight gave them the only way he knows how: by belittling everyone else around him.

It’s a lot like the Lane Kiffin/Urban Meyers comments. Yeah, it’s going to piss off the rival team, but it really energizes the home team. Isn’t that the objective anyway?

So chill out. Knight is washed up and out of coaching. UK fans hated him anyway and honestly, he doesn’t care. He’s going to be brash. And just like Calipari, he’s going to be a love/hate type of guy. His fans will love him, everyone else will hate him.

Just business as usual.
