Bracketology has a sense of humor

Joe Lunardi has a job many think they could do better (or at who at least would love to have that kind of job) as ESPN’s bracketologist. Personally, I think Lunardi has a good success rate and I’m not sure I could do his job. That being said, any mid-December projections are probably too far off from March to really take to the bank.

But boy, Lunardi sure does have some humor this holiday season in his latest Bracketology listings. The good news is that UK is a No. 1 seed in the East Bracket, playing in New Orleans to open up the NCAA tournament. That’s pretty much unchanging news.

The interesting part is who they could potentially face in the second round — Memphis. That’s right, the former team of John Calipari and many of his assistants is the No. 9 seed in the same bracket. Also, some of UK’s freshmen had committed or had Memphis in their sights before Calipari came to UK.

Will that be the final matchup? Who knows. But would it produce a fantastic second round matchup for UK and Memphis fans. The Tigers took Kansas down to the final wire earlier this year and will battle Tulsa for the Conference USA crown, most likely.

So hopefully Lunardi’s prediction stays true come March. Because I don’t know of anything more lively than a Memphis vs. UK game in New Orleans… including Bourbon Street.
