Cats moving on up in polls, collecting awards

Here’s a few quick hits about what the Cats (both basketball and football) have been pulling in award-wise:

John Wall was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for the third straight week after is performance in the North Carolina game. In the four weeks the award has been handed out, a UK players has won the award. Eric Bledsoe took the first award in Week 1.

Randall Cobb and four others were named to the Associated Press All-SEC team. Cobb was the Cats only first-teamer, landing at the all-purpose position. Seniors Corey Peters and Sam Maxwell were named to the second team at their respective positions (defensive line and linebacker), as was junior Derrick Locke, who made the second team at the all-purpose position. Offensive tackle Zipp Duncan made the team as an honorable mention.

Lastly, the basketball team moved up to No. 4 in the AP poll after defeating North Carolina on Saturday. The team was previously No. 5 in the rankings and will face No. 14 Connecticut in Madison Sqaure Garden on Wednesday night.
