The Doomsday Scenarios for Bowling
I’ve got some bad news for you.
You may have to decide between John Calipari and Rich Brooks. Between Randall Cobb and John Wall.
Because with UK’s loss to Tennessee, it’s 25th in a row in case you forgot, the Cats are on a crash course toward the Liberty and Papajohns.com bowls. And it’s not that those bowls are bad (lower tier, yes, but not bad). It’s just the day they occur, Jan. 2 2010, is a bad day.
Because Jan. 2, 2010 is the same day Louisville visits Rupp Arena for the first time with John Calipari as UK head coach. It’s the Doomsday Scenario that Athletic Director Mitch Barnhart probably has nightmares about.
Everyone knows this is a basketball university that has enjoyed football success. But it’s more likely that Rupp will be overflowing than any Jan. 2 bowl game if that’s UK’s fate. Memphis (Liberty) is a 7 hour drive from Lexington and Birmingham (Papajohns.com) is similiar in length. There’s no way anyone could pull a double.
But with the Outback Bowl out of the question, the Chik-fil-a bowl unlikely and the Music City unknown… the Doomsday Scenario is ever-likely.
Which has to make Barnhart a very nervous man right now.
